learning-to-play-golf-with-a-disability

It’s a great way to get outdoors, exercise, make friends, all while providing the opportunity for personal challenge and growth. There is no reason why everyone shouldn’t enjoy the sport, including people with disabilities.

Golf is one of the few sports in which people with a (severe) physical and/or intellectual disability can participate. And while that may not necessarily be the goal, many of them experience a significant improvement in their physical and mental health through golf.

Everyone can play golf at their own level. It can be determined per person with which adjustments the sport can be practiced.

Golf is a sport for everyone. Regardless of age, gender, or physical disability.

Would you like to play golf?

Do you have a disability and would you like to play golf? Then you have come to the right place at De Goese Golf. Exercise has a positive effect on the condition of the brain. It ensures better blood circulation in the brain and promotes the production of new brain cells. And we are happy to help you with that.

Golf with a disability

The number of disabled and physically challenged people who regularly play golf is very limited in the Netherlands. This is because golf is not sufficiently known to these groups as an option for sports. An example of this are patients with an acquired brain injury, who are not addressed by handicapped golf, but do benefit greatly from golf as support for rehabilitation and strengthening social contacts.

Golf offers the opportunity to be active in the outdoors, which promotes relaxed movement and helps to regain better control of the body. The social aspect is also experienced as positive.

Learning to play golf is also a good idea if you have ADHD, autism or an intellectual disability. On the golf course you have much fewer stimuli than, for example, on a football field. You are outside in nature and you only have grass and trees around you.

Did you know, for example, that golf is popular among people with Parkinson’s? It stimulates concentration and fine motor skills. Being outside in the often beautiful nature and social contacts on the track contribute even further to the physical and mental well-being of Parkinson’s patients.
